Ro Faster is my new game that started as a one-weekend game jam and developed into something that I think is really cool. It was built in GDevelop, a program I had never used before. The creation of the game was a lot of fun, and learning the new system took a lot out of me, but I’m glad I did it. I see myself using it in the future for smaller games. It contains lots of free tools and assets that let you get started right away. I did no code for the actual movement system of the character, which meant I could save a day or two on debugging. All the assets in the game were created by me, save for the victory theme, which was created and distributed for free by Tvari.
DEVLOG
4-4-25: Within 3 hours of posting the game, I was bombarded with bugs and had to update the game 6 times, including adding a mobile touchscreen build and fixing an ear-bleedingly devastating bug. These were quick fixes, but as I was working on my trailer I found lots of assets and gameplay that I was unhappy with. I decided to give it a rest as my work day was over, but I went to bed that night thinking about how to animate a shark, and how to make a hand look less terrible.
4-5-25: Just spent an hour or whatever making a new paste and cleaning up the animation code.
4-6-25: Finished the trailer today! Very, very early in the morning. After thinking about it all day, I’m happy with how it came out. During the day, I’ll post it on my 1 social media site. I am slowly working on the 1.1 update, You Better Ro Faster! The plan is to do all the stuff I wanted to do during my first pass at the game. This includes an endless mode, 1 more music track, and heavily updated animations for the shark. If I wasn’t lazy, which I can be every so often, I want to animate in 4’s for the row boat and the sharks, which is a tall ask. Animation is not my specialty, but neither is solo arcade development, so we’ll make it work. I’m going to take some time away from the project after 1 more hotfix with the trailer release.
These are the two tracks for the game, with the second one being adaptive, so having like, 6 files.

The art was made in Adobe Fresco, and underwent quite a few passes until I found a style I liked for the game that was visually clear and internally consistent.

Thanks so much for reading! As a thank you, here’s my favorite glitch that got summoned, and an easter egg. When you beat the game, on the victory screen, press the space bar. I promise you’ll like it or your money back.
